May 24- Maya Moore became the first WNBA player to score 30 points in four straight games in 2014.

Updated: Jun 6, 2020

2014- On this date in sports history, Maya Moore scored at least 30 points for four straight games! This set a WNBA record as she was the first player to have four consecutive 30 point games. The Lynx were coming off a 2013 WNBA championship the year before and Moore was named WNBA Finals MVP. Maya Moore started the 2014 season on fire as the four game 30 point streak was the first four games of the season. The record was set when she scored exactly 30 points against the New York Liberty on May 24, 2014. Moore started the game by hitting four 3-pointers. However, in the second quarter she collided with her teammate Seimone Augustus. It kept both of them out for most of that quarter and it looked like Moore wouldn’t be able to get the record. She ultimately returned and went into the fourth quarter with 23 points. She hit 30 points on a driving basket with about 3 minutes left in the game. She finished with exactly 30 points and officially became the first ever WNBA player to score 30 points in four straight games. The Lynx won the game 87-82 over Tina Charles and the New York Liberty. The streak came after scoring 34, 33, 38, and 30 points against the Mystics, Sun, Shock, and Liberty, respectively. The Lynx won all four of the games. They went on to go 25-9 in the 2014 WNBA season. They made the Western Conference Finals before falling to the Phoenix Mercury in three games.

Maya Moore is a WNBA star for the Minnesota Lynx. She is a five-time WNBA all-star and a four-time WNBA champion. She won the 2011 Rookie of the Year award and the 2014 WNBA MVP award. Her feat of four straight 30 point games was not accomplished again by a WNBA player for five more seasons. Arike Ogunbowale accomplished it in the 2019 season for the Dallas Wings. No one else has accomplished it since.

Maya Moore and the Lynx won the 2017 WNBA championship. Since then, Moore has been on a basketball hiatus. She devoted herself to trying to help prove the innocence of a man named Jonathan Irons. He was found guilty in 1998 for burglary and assault with a weapon. In March, 2020, Moore’s mission was successful as Iron’s conviction was overturned. Although Moore’s basketball future is still uncertain, many WNBA fans hope that they will get to watch her again. Perhaps she would be able to break her own record for most consecutive 30 point games if she does come back.
