June 24- Oregon State Wins the 2007 College World Series
2007- On this day in Sports History, the Oregon State Beavers won the 2007 College World Series. They beat North Carolina in Game 2 9-3 for a sweep of the Finals to win the National Title. It was Oregon State’s second straight National Title as they beat North Carolina in the Finals of the 2006 College World Series as well. Going into the last weeks of the 2007 season, it was unsure whether the Beavers would even make the postseason. They finished 10-14 in the Pac 10 which barely sneaked them into the NCAA Tournament. But it also made them the first team to win the College World Series after finishing below .500 in conference play.

The Beavers entered the 2007 baseball season hoping to defend their title and win another National Championship. They lost several key players from the previous year and needed to replace them. They started out the season well and the Beavers only lost three games in the non-conference part of the schedule. However, once Pac 10 play started, the Beavers began to struggle. They were 8-13 in conference play going into the final series of the season against UCLA. The Beavers won 2 out of 3 in the series to finish 10-14 for sixth place in the conference and allowed them to barely sneak into the postseason.
Once the Beavers made the postseason, they finally regained their winning ways as they won 11 of 12 games to win the National Championship. Oregon State was awarded the three seed in the Charlottesville (Virginia) Regional. They beat Rutgers in the first game, but then lost to the host team in Game 2. This was the only game they would lose as they got revenge by beating Virginia in the Regional Finals. They went on to sweep Michigan in the Super Regionals to make the College World Series.

The seven other teams that made the 2007 College World Series were North Carolina, Mississippi State, Arizona State, UC Irvine, Louisville, Rice, and Cal State Fullerton. Oregon State won every game on their way to the Finals for a rematch with North Carolina. The Beavers won Game 1 11-4 and Game 2 9-3 to win the 2007 College World Series.
After finishing 10-14 in conference play, the Beavers won 11 of 12 games in the postseason. It included all five of the College World Series to win the National Championship. They became the first team to win back to back National Championships since LSU did in 1996 and 1997. Oregon State also won the 2018 College World Series for a total of three National Championships in their college baseball history.
