July 10- Andy Murray wins the 2016 Wimbledon Title
2016- On this day in Sports History, Andy Murray won the 2016 Wimbledon Title! He beat Milos Raonic 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 in the Men’s Finals to win the tournament. Andy Murray, from Glasgow, Scotland, won his second Wimbledon Title of his career which is held in his home country of England. The win was his third career Grand Slam Title as he also won the 2012 US Open.

Andy Murray was the big home crowd favorite with him being from England. The Wimbledon Title that he won on this day in 2016 was his second Wimbledon Title. The other year he was the champion was in 2013. The 2013 Title ended a 77 year drought with a British man winning the Men’s Singles Title at Wimbledon. Murray was close to ending the drought in 2012 when he lost in the Final. But after winning the 2013 title, he was the first British man that won England’s historic tennis tournament since Fred Perry in 1936. Andy Murray also had won the 2012 Olympics which was held in London.
Andy Murray won the 2016 Wimbledon Title after going into the tournament as the second seed. Novak Djokovic went into the tournament as the first seed, but was upset in the third round. Murray went through the whole tournament with only one match that went more than 3 sets as he swept five out of his 6 matches. He beat Tomas Berdych in the semifinals to make the Final Match. Milos Raonic upset Roger Federer in the other semifinal match to face Andy Murray. British fans enthusiastically watched fellow Brit Andy Murray win his second Wimbledon Title by beating Milos Raonic.
Andy Murray had a great 2016 tennis season. In addition to winning the Wimbledon Title, he also won the gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is the only man or woman to earn two Tennis Singles Olympic Gold Medals. Murray also finished the 2016 tennis season as the #1 player in the world.
